LSZH sheathing saves lives in the event of a fire. It has been found that 80% more people die from suffocation than from actual poisoning or the fire itself. This is due to the gases which emerge from every fire, especially the extremely dangerous, invisible, in-odorous and tasteless gas carbon monoxide.

Cable runs can aid in the rapid spread of fire throughout a building. A single cable installed vertically will direct a fire upwards and burn very fast as a chimney effect is created (supported by hot gases and an upwards-turned air stream).

This is even more the case with bundles of cable: whilst a tight and compact bundle behaves in a similar way to a single cable, the fastest and most fierce burning of all will occur when the spacing between single cables in a bunch is similar to the OD of the cables.
